What are dental implants?
A dental implant may be suggested for an individual who has lost a tooth due to severe decay, an accident, advanced gum disease or another dental issue. A dental implant is made up of a titanium implant post, an abutment and a dental restoration (like a dental crown).

The dental implant post is surgically placed into the socket of the missing tooth. As the jawbone heals, it fuses with the post. The healing process takes some time. Then, the abutment is attached to the top of the implant post. A dental restoration is custom made and attached to the dental implant post through the abutment.

What are the advantages of dental implants?
There are many advantages that come with having a dental implant placed. Dental implants are designed to look and feel like natural teeth. These dental restorations can bring back self-confidence that was marred by one or more lost teeth.

Implants can also reinstate your ability to eat and speak properly and with ease. Dental implants are a part of your smile, so they will not slide around in your mouth. Also, dental implants do not require the altering of healthy tooth enamel.
