If you have questions about how to properly and effectively clean and care for your child’s smile, you’re not alone. Many people also have questions about children’s dental care because it can be overwhelming and even confusing. To help you find the answers you need so you can keep your child’s teeth and gums in tip-top shape, our dentist, Dr. Bruce Howard, is happy to provide the answers to the following commonly asked questions about children’s dental care in Kaysville, Utah:
Q: How often should I clean my child’s teeth and gums?
A: It’s best to brush your child’s little chompers twice a day (every morning and night). It’s also recommended to floss their teeth once a day (it doesn’t matter when). But, if your child is still missing teeth, you don’t need to worry about flossing. This is because the teeth aren’t tightly knit together and there’s still enough space between the teeth for the toothbrush to easily and effectively clean the area.
Q: What oral hygiene tools should I use to clean my child’s smile?
A: For a proper and effective clean, use a child-sized, soft-bristled toothbrush and swallow-safe (if your child still swallows the paste) as well as fluoride-free (if your child is under 3 years old) toothpaste. When it comes to floss, use the product that is easiest to maneuver.
Q: How often should I take my child to the dental office for a checkup?
A: After your child’s first birthday, you should bring them into our office every six months for a routine cleaning and examination.
